A NEW MEANING FOR "GOING TO COURT"
Where do New Jersey lawyers go to argue in court? Or, rather, "on" the court? Why, in the New Jersey Lawyers Basketball League, of course.
The League was started ten years ago by attorney, Mitchell Rait. The Lawyers League presently boasts 37 teams playing week nights at local gyms in Bergen, Morris, Essex and Middlesex counties.
From January to April of each year, most of the state's top twenty law firms, as well as groups of individuals who band together, enter teams in this competitive, yet fun, basketball league.
After surviving a 10-game regular season and a March Madness playoff tournament, the League's top two teams are invited to battle it out on the court in the Championship Game. The Championship Game has historically been played at the Continental Airlines Arena following a New Jersey Nets game. Past winners include LeBoeuf Lamb, Seton Hall Alumni and Sharkey & Campisi.
The League provides referees, scorekeepers, electronic scoreboards, insurance and uniforms. Law Pros® Legal Placement Services is the proud sponsor of the League.
The Lawyers Athletic League also offers a winter co-ed volleyball league and has a sister league, the New Jersey Corporate Sports League with 45 basketball teams.
